About The Journal

Awakening is a bilingual annual academic journal of the Department of History, Naba Ballygunge Mahavidyalaya, affiliated with the University of Calcutta. It addresses research interests in historical studies with an inter-disciplinary and inter-regional approach, especially catering to the research interests and inquisitiveness of undergraduate students, faculty and researchers. Although the journal focuses on South Asian studies, it welcomes academic writings from all areas of historical research. It aims to provide a platform for scholarly discussion, especially for students, to present fresh research and new developments in different areas, pertaining to the discipline.
The Department has started to publish this journal since 2023, and received overwhelming support, encouragement and good wishes from all quarters. In the days to come it will surely be a journal of immense repute.

The Objectives of the Journal

The objectives of publishing Awakening are as under:
